Julia Longwell Fine Art
I invite viewers to immerse themselves in a world of vibrant colors that celebrate the beauty and diversity of South Florida. My artistic practice encompasses a range of genres including abstract paintings, still life, portraits, and landscapes, each offering a unique perspective on the relationships I share with my surroundings, my loved ones, and the places I visit. I share my experience of being a mother and a member of a mixed status family. Mixing my paints is important and stimulating part of my process. When I begin, I like to take about 30 min. creating new colors. I like to work in oil paint because the colors are richer. I Paint in layers to allow it to dry so I usually work on multiple canvases at a time. My paintings begin abstractly and then some of them stay abstract or I have a vision and I match them up with a photograph of mine. Then I create a composition combining the abstract nature of the paint that is already on the canvas and the subject in the photograph. Inspiration for my work are my life’s experiences and material I encounter. Recently I have been making mixed media pieces with salvage wallpaper that I find beautiful. I have been exploring creating abstract colorful worlds in my paintings.
